The Vending Machine Company

Nobody’s Perfect operates a soda machine vending company that employs several individuals to keep the machine stocked with popular soft drinks and juices. This particular program teaches responsibility and dependability along with counting money and tracking inventory, skills that entrepreneurs will need with their own ventures. The machines are currently in three locations and the workers interact from their Day Programs at the locations to perform their tasks. The employees are then paid by Nobody’s Perfect and the residuals after expenses generate ongoing funding support for the non-profit.
The Nobody’s Perfect Store
We operate two small convenience stores in donated space at Guthrie Mainstream facilities. Chips, ice cream, t-shirts, microwavable foods and a copy and shredding service make up the variety of goods and services that can be purchased on a daily basis. These stores are open to the community. Peter is our store manager at the GREAT Center on Dobson Road. He uses the software systems that link the cash register to a computer to track inventory for all the locations along with sales and cash flow. Through his personal objectives, Peter has been able to study through the entire QuickBooks tutorial within a year and is now working through other business related studies.
In the Training Store at the Ability Center several individuals rotate half hour shifts everyday and wait on customers. The trainees scan the item barcodes, process the sale, take money and give change with a receipt. Dallon takes care of the snack and soda vending machines at the Children’s Learning Center.
In the summer of 2007 we added a reverse osmosis water purification system to the Ability Center store. Now Bill can fill the five gallon bottles for the water coolers in house. We are extending the purified water sales into the community to bring in customers from around the area for their water needs.”
Facility Service Program

As with the Vending Machine Company, the workers are taken to buildings owned by Guthrie Mainstream Services to perform janitorial tasks. These service trainning programs are contracted by Nobody’s Perfect and the workers are paid on an hourly basis. Responsibility and attention to detail are the skills focused on to train individuals to keep their environment clean and healthy.
There are also those who are paid to help with clerical and office duties as administrative assistants.
Project Dream
This is a committee of self-determined people who meet together and plan how to make each others dreams come true. Edgar baked cookies and sold them to raise money so Peter could take a hot air ballon ride. Brian was treated to his dream of riding in a monster truck. On October 29th 2009, the Shining Stars Fashion Show enabled seventeen individuals fulfill their dream of being runway models. With the help of the Mesa Community College Fashion Focus Club, an audience of over 250 shared in an unforgetable evening.
